We use Adult Workshops as our main avenue of instruction.  In one 2-hour workshop, we focus on the first 50 words that a child can use to communicate their basic needs.  We also discuss when to start using sign language with a baby, why it is beneficial to do it, and, most importantly, how to sign with your child.  Because the end goal is verbal development and we teach communicators how to attain that end goal, there is no risk of delaying speech.  If further instruction is desired, we do offer two additional workshops, each with 50 new words, to build on to the skills developed in the first workshop.  In each workshop, we use a multiple learning approach to suit all styles and abilities.  Through music, games and memory building techniques, the information is presented in an educational, yet entertaining way.  Each student will recieve a folder with all the information we covered in the workshop, including a dictionary and a CD of music.

Another avenue of instruction we offer is through our Youth Program, which includes preschool enrichment classes, afterschool programs, Mommy and Me play groups, special needs groups and Girl Scout Troops.  Using a multi-sensory approach to learning, we develop the interest of the child through music, books, and games.   Following the philosophy of experience-based learning, we encourage children to have hands-on interaction during the lesson.  To inquire further about our Youth Programs, call our main office number or email kids@chattyhands.com.
